| Candidacy of Duane Hetzer
The Chapter discussed Duane's desire to become an SIT and develop a
CPE program at his present setting at East Liverpool City Hospital in
Ohio. He seems to demonstrate little awareness of the process,
although he has received information about it. The Chapter will
wait for him to take the initiative in an appropriate way.
|
| Re-certification
All chapter members are current on dues, and will be presented in
March for re-certification.
Members are conscientious about the spirit of the covenant, which
requires us to be in touch with each other on a regular basis.
Because of our geographical dispersion, it is no longer possible for
every member to be present at each face-to-face meeting.
However, the chapter has adopted an expectation that every diplomate
will attend a meeting at least once in each calendar year. With
three from which to choose, it should be possible; failure to meet
this expectation will result in "Inactive" status.

| Governing Council report
Highlights of the Council meeting may be found at http://www.cpsp.org/council/fall_02.htm
Ben reported on the meeting of the Governing Council held on
October 11-12, 2002.
An "Institutional Chaplain Board" is being established to
consider applications from certified Pastoral Counselors who want an
additional designation as Institutional Chaplain.
CPSP will be applying to the US Department of Education for
recognition, and will be evaluating the required changes in
certification and accreditation procedures.
Ben requested that a member of Council meet with the chapter at the
Virginia Beach meeting, in order to meet the requirement for Council
visitation every two years. |
Joe Whalen

Joe reported that he has resigned his position at St. Joseph Hospital
as of October 1, and that he will be starting on November 4 as a Social
Worker for Hospice of the Bluegrass, based in Cynthiana, KY. He will
have a leave of absence from the priesthood without faculties for one year
of discernment.
People have been very supportive of him. There is a possibility
that he may supervise CPE at St. Joseph, if he can arrange scheduling.

Henry Uy (Click on thumbnail for full-size picture)

Henry's department has a new director, who is very committed to
providing chaplaincy training for Seventh Day Adventist
students. This has resulted in designating two of the six
Residency positions exclusively for SDA applicants.

Ben Bogia (Click on thumbnail for full-size picture)

Ben has begun doing some investing in Real Estate, along with
his other activities. He continues to supervise a CPE program
under contract to Easton Memorial Hospital, and sees a few clients
for NLP/Hypnotherapy.
He is also a Town Commissioner and a member of the Coast Guard
Auxiliary. |

Kay Myers

Kay reported on the present state of the complaint
filed by a former student. Joe, as a representative of the
chapter, has been in communication with the attorney at Peninsula
Regional Medical Center.
Kay is also instrumental in helping a group of
chaplains form a Pastoral Counseling chapter in the Salisbury, MD,
area. They are at the beginning of their journey, but show
promise.

Malcolm Ballinger (Click

Malcolm continues to do counseling, although his client load is
gradually decreasing. Professionally, he mourns the fact that
he has less and less use for all of the materials that he has
developed and collected over the years.
He shared with the chapter his continuing grief over the loss of
Marjorie.
Malcolm will be 90 years old on December 30! |
Gino Donatelli (Click on thumbnail for full-size picture)
Gino's life is relatively settled. He is active at Loyola,
and has recently become a member of the CPE Professional Advisory
Committee, although he is not yet supervising a program. He
likes his work on pediatrics.
At home, he has enjoyed gardening in a settled environment.
